12/24/2023 0 Comments C3 tangerine switches![]() Historically, UHMWPE has been used in some experimental after-market stems, most notably by Invyr and most recently by Aeboards. In addition to the sound and feel of UHMWPE, is the fact that C3 managed to circumvent the usual pitfalls that are associated with using this material. Call me a stupid purist but the whole point of you buying different switches is to experience different typing feels and sounds (even if they are minutely different) and thus whilst you can just lube out the pop on these Tangerines, you could also just buy a different JWK linear. Now you can lube this out by taking your brush to the top housing but I feel that really just means you like the sound of 205G0. This is unique in a world of PC/Nylon tops but is ultimately not for me. Sound tests are bad but this was most reflective of my experience of the sound Typing on a set of Tangerines at high speed leads to a cacophony of these pops that whilst I find unpleasant, I can appreciate someone else would describe it as “fun”. The sound of the stem hitting up the top housing leads to a high-pitched sound that I would not describe as clack but rather a pop. The UHMWPE housing leads to a very plasticky sounding upstroke. Unfortunately, it’s a sound that I am not particularly fond of. In terms of sound, the Tangerines are unique with their sound signature. However, I can say with some degree of confidence when buying a batch of 70 or 90 or 110, the Tangerines are the most consistently smooth. Some other JWK switches do come close and some even surpass it if choosing particularly good ones from a batch. ![]() If you share the same sentiments then I cannot definitively name an alternative switch that would deliver comparable smoothness stock. This is tempered by more advanced consideration such as how well it takes to being “broken-in” and how well it lubes but it remains an important factor in guiding your linear purchases. I previously mentioned that smoothness is likely the number one determining factor when purchasing a linear switch. Little to no scratch is audible nor felt whilst typing which means that if you’re coming from your pre-built Cherry Red board and want to ruin yourself by jumping to the complete opposite end of the spectrum then this is the switch for you. The UHMWPE housing and POM stem combine for a very satisfying and very smooth typing experience. I won’t dare to say a definitive yes but in recent memory, I cannot recall any other linear that was as smooth as the Tangerines. Yes, they are indeed a very smooth linear. Not sure what C3 did in respect of this particular formulation of UHMWPE but no inconsistencies in my batch of Tangerines were apparent.Īvailable with either 62g or 67g gold plated springs and coated in some oil these hit the usual trademarks of a JWK linear (apart from the materials of course).Ĭoming in at around 95c per switch, these exactly aren’t the biggest value buy but are fairly consistent with the usual JWK fare that is on the market at present. And whilst not dissimilar to what happens when you stay in a cold pool for too long, this usually leads to undesirable outcomes for switches. Now one thing to note that UHMWPE suffers from shrinkage. Now I won’t bore you with the science (because I don’t know it) but it’s got a lower friction coefficient than the plastics you see in switches nowadays. UHMWPE is an acronym for ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene. Tangerines feature a UHMWPE housing coloured in a transparent orange with a green POM stem. Hydration is a Myth on Twitter: "" / Twitter To test your Tangerines or Kiwis see the following: NOTE : recent batches of Tangerines and Kiwis have had some issues with holes in bottom housing leading to some wobbling and clicking issues in their switches. Would these be like some other switches with their outrageous claims (cough “self-lubricating switch” cough) or would it be something legitimately good in the linear market? So when a switch comes by stating that they are the smoothest linear in the game, it's a bold claim to make. Smoothness is the most integral element of a linear (IMO) followed by sound and general defects or issues with batches of switches. Now when it comes to reviewing linears, there are very limited aspects that you can be critical on. Part of the fruit series, these linears tout themselves as the smoothest linear in the game. One of the, if not the most smooth stock switchĬ3 Tangerines are an offering from C3 Equalz manufactured by JWK.
